Talented graduating Waldorf senior Sylvia Lambley will offer music that she has written especially for St. Johns, as well as some of her other pieces. As an addition we will briefly consider together the unique opportunities that come at St. Johns tide, and end with a potluck.
In his St. John Imagination Rudolf Steiner describes creating an artistic presentation with visual elements that would be in movement, perhaps using vaporous substances. Then, “…all that can then be seen in weaving pictures would have to be transposed into powerful music, so that the cosmic Mystery, as it can be experienced by man at this season of St. John, would speak to our hearts.” We are happy that Sylvia has graciously agreed to begin this journey with us.
For the potluck, feel free to bring your individual meal if that is easier, as we know that there can be special individual dietary needs. At St. Johns the earth is at its zenith, having breathed its soul out into the cosmos with the Christ, the elementals and other spiritual beings. From this point on they will begin their descent back to the earth, bringing with them the all important cosmic/sun influences they have taken in.
As noted in an address given on Sunday 23rd June 2019 at Emerson College, “Rudolf Steiner, in a lecture given on 12th October 1923, said that the great archangel most associated with this time of year is Uriel: and that Uriel directs his countenance and clear piercing gaze down towards the Earth and perceives disturbing shapes which continually gather and dissolve, gather and dissolve again. These shapes, Steiner says, are ‘human errors upon which Uriel directs his earnest gaze. Here during the height of summer, the imperfections of mankind are searchingly surveyed and contrasted with the morality implicit in the natural world. Now we see how at midsummer human errors are woven into the regular crystals which are formed in the normal course of Nature. On the other hand, all that is human virtue and human excellence rises up with silver-gleaming lines and is seen as the clouds that envelop Uriel’ So Midsummer is a time when, under the gaze of Uriel, the spiritual world looks with especial closeness at our human actions and motivations. On February 12 friend of the bees Jacqueline Freeman offered her colorful experiences with becoming sensitive to nature beings on her farm, complete with engaging pictures. (This is a topic that also engages the Foundation Stone groups.) The event with Lynn Madsen has been postponed to a date tbd. And we are very much looking forward to the presentation and conversation on Rudolf Steiner’s nutrition past and present with Marjory House on Sunday, June11.
On May 12 & 13 Harald Hoven offered a workshop titled Biodynamics: A Deed for the Earth and Our Nutrition. The important information he offered was punctuated with actual practice. After his descriptions in the morning and a break we built a hot compost pile filled with life!
After lunch and his afternoon presentation on the subject, in several buckets we all stirred the horn manure prep 500, which is for the body of the earth - the soil - with plenty for everyone to take home. As we continued to stir the preps with our hands and arms, we perceived a change in how the water felt, even in the sounds of the stirring, and felt a change in the mood as likely elementals drew ever nearer. The stirring and spraying are done with the descending sun.

Friends energetically and cheerfully worked together despite the 90 degree temperature |  | Each layer is well watered. |  | |  | We did take time for breaks and lunch. |  | Harald pierces the pile to the middle in five places to make holes for the preps. The sixth is sprayed on the outside. |  | Plugs are made of moist earth and the preps for insertion into the pile, where they will radiate their influences through the pile. Student Support: I am Soma Baker, a 23 year old Portland Native and student at YIP, the international Youth Initiative Program in Sweden. I am currently in the final 3 months of the one year program focused on social entrepreneurship for young adults, based in Iterjärna Sweden (an anthroposophical community). I am mainly studying culture today, and how to bring consciousness to it through art and ideas, exploring what it means to be a free human being today. I would like to further/finish my studies this year and need financial assistance.
